The Asmat: The yeu communal hut

The Yeu is a communal hut where the male bachelors of the tribe sleep and that in earlier days was also used for gatherings, where chants and rituals were performed. The Yeu  was a place where the world of the living and the world of the dead could meet.

Building of a new Yeu is a task that involves all the members of the community.
